Management Team
Ratel’s principals, Ron Sann and Joe Gillach, are responsible for the overall success of the firm. We employ a skilled in-house team who provide investor relations, asset management, bookkeeping and business operations, coupled with outside legal and accounting experts in order to maintain a profitable portfolio of investment properties. Ratel’s principals personally co-invest 10% of the equity we raise for each investment in order to demonstrate our commitment to a project and align our interests with those of our investors.
Ron Sann – Principal
Ron Sann began his real estate career at Chase Manhattan Bank where he helped underwrite, manage and syndicate a commercial real estate loan portfolio consisting primarily of construction loans for office buildings, residential and regional shopping centers. Prior, Mr. Sann worked for Cambridge Management Consulting, a strategy and process re-engineering firm, and Niku Corporation, a software company, where he worked in mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Sann founded Ratel Investments in 2001. He holds a BA from UCLA and an MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management. Mr. Sann is also a founding member of Duskbusters, a non profit which raises funds for the MS Society and an active little league and soccer coach.
Joe Gillach – Principal
Joe Gillach has extensive experience purchasing and managing multi-unit residential properties in the San Francisco Bay Area. Prior to joining Ratel Investments as a Principal in 2003, Mr. Gillach held senior marketing positions at several technology companies, including Oracle, Diba, ONElist and Sun Microsystems. In addition, Mr. Gillach was a member of the Marketing Practice for the management consulting firm of Booz-Allen & Hamilton. He holds a BA from Georgetown University and an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Finance. Mr. Gillach also serves on the Boards of the Marin Agricultural Land Trust (MALT), an agricultural land conservation nonprofit; GreenbyDesign, a green consumer commerce and content company; and is a member of the Board of Advisors for Noribachi, a cleantech venture accelerator firm.
Rajvi Berry – Vice President
Rajvi Berry brings to Ratel extensive finance and accounting experience as well as proven international client relations skills. Most recently Ms. Berry oversaw a private portfolio of real estate investments, including multi-family assets and office properties. Prior, she was an Executive Director, Institutional Equity Sales for Goldman Sachs based in Hong Kong. Ms. Berry began her career at KPMG Peat Marwick where she supervised multiple engagements and provided tax advice to corporate and partnership clients. She holds a BS in Business Administration and an MS in Taxation from the University of Southern California, an MBA in Finance and Marketing from the University of Chicago and is qualified as a Certified Public Accountant. Ms. Berry also serves on the Board of Directors of the Marin Indian American Association.
Douglas Pinter – Of Counsel
Douglas Pinter is of counsel to the firm and Ratel’s broker of record. Mr. Pinter has been active in the real estate industry for over 20 years as a developer, private investor and broker. In addition, he spent several decades as a senior executive in large public corporations and in a venture-backed start up. Prior to joining Ratel, Mr. Pinter was founder and CEO of Portico West, Inc., a real estate firm specializing in raw land development, new construction, renovation and condominium conversion. Mr. Pinter received his BA and JD from William & Mary in Virginia. He is a member of the Virginia Bar Association and is licensed by the New York Department of State and the California Department of Real Estate as a real estate broker.
